About the ASO Titre (ASOT) Test
This blood test measures Antistreptolysin O (ASO) antibodies, which the body produces in response to infection with group A streptococcus bacteria. A raised or rising level indicates a recent strep infection and can help investigate related complications such as rheumatic fever or certain kidney conditions. It is valuable when these post-infection complications are suspected.
Preparation and turnaround
A simple venous blood sample is taken with no fasting required. Results are usually available within one to two working days. Because a single result is most meaningful when compared over time, your doctor may recommend a repeat test and will interpret results alongside your symptoms.
